Crime and Rival Gang Member Essay

The Outsiders tells a story about two kids named Johnny and Ponyboy who are in a gang called the Greasers. They live in a wrong doing world of gangs and fights. After Johnny protects Ponyboy by killing a rival gang member named Bob, the two boys run away. A young criminal named Dally helps them escape. After an incident with a burning church Johnny dies and Dally dies soon after because of the sorrow Johnny’s death caused him. In the novel The Outsiders, S. E Hinton demonstrates that violence can lead to nothing more than emotional hardships, crime, and death. The smallest act of crime can often lead to inner adversity. For instance, Johnny’s parents would beat him and left him feeling safer in a gang or in a parking lot. Due to the parents hurting Johnny he was forced to live a life in a gang, a life of crime, and violence. Johnny felt as if no cared and that even if he lived in a gang his parents wouldn’t do anything. Another example is when Darry hits Ponyboy for being late home and Ponyboy runs away. Darry â€Å"wheeled around and slapped (Ponyboy) so hard that it knocked (him) against the door,† that causes emotional tension that gets in the way of family. A small act of violence makes Ponyboy dash away from their home and create division between the two brothers. The final example is when Johnny dies and Ponyboy gets traumatized. The death of Johnny made Ponyboy so confused that he altered and denied reality. Ponyboy was significant on Ponyboy he wasn’t in the right mind for a while. Crime is frequently the result of an act of violence. The felony of Bob trying to kill Pony boy left Johnny having to kill him. ‘They put you in the electric chair for killing people,’ and it is only because violence was committed. The crime of Bob trying to kill Ponyboy resulted in his death. The gangs fought and did many illegal things that made them always on the look out for cops. Just because people may not like each other doesn’t mean crime need s to be committed. Most of the time crime is involved people get hurt. Lastly Dally robbed a grocery store and the cops ended up firing their weapons at him. When a misdeed happens it is either caused by violence or started with violence whether it’s the police or a gang. The felony Dally committed soon after cost him his life. One of the most cruel and harsh effects of felony is the consequence of death. One example is that Johnny gets beaten up by Socs and the next time they try and harm him he kills Bob. The fear that the Socs would hurt him resorted to Johnny killing Bob. A kid with a pocketknife who is scared to get hurt can lead to a devastation effect. Secondly is when Johnny dies in the fire. The murder of Bob made Johnny run away and directed him into feeling like he had to risk his life to save the kids in the church. Because Johnny was guilty with murder it sadly lead to his death. In the end of it all he died because of his act of violence to Bob. Lastly the message repeats itself when Dally dies out of sorrow of Johnny’s death. The death of one made Dally kill himself by pulling a gun on the cops. Johnny’s death was the cause and end of Dally’s. Violence is an action that can only end in pain and misery. Violence in today’s society would lead to the collapse of a civilized world. As the world advances with protection and security, less hostility will be shown and the world will become a better place for future generations. With all the progress in technology we shall never expel violence itself. Although violence won’t be destroyed, it is up to us to suppress or reduce death and acts of violence. The world needs to try and stop the terrible action from ever happening again.

Raising Our Native Sons Essay

During the modern era, there was an overwhelming sense of optimism due to the nation’s booming economy. There was a generalization that any citizen could work hard and become successful. However, this was not always the case in American society. Not everyone was given equal opportunity to thrive and succeed. This struggle was expressed in various literary works. In is novel Native Son, Richard Wright uses symbolism and irony to attack race issues and oppression in order to suggest that African Americans should have equal opportunity as whites. Throughout the novel, the protagonist, Bigger Thomas faces persecution and mistreatment simply because of the color of his skin. This racism appears early in the novel when a rat is encountered in his apartment. Bigger’s mother is disgusted by the gross creature she finds wandering in the family’s apartment. She proclaims her disgust and fear of the rat by saying, â€Å"Lord, Lord, have mercy†¦ that sonofabitch could cut your throat† (10). Through this duologue, the readers realize the harsh treatment and attitude the rat is receiving from Bigger’s family. They are scared and afraid of the rat, even though it means no harm and is merely trying to surviving with the living conditions it has been given. This demonstrates the overall racism towards blacks throughout the book as they are treated poorly and set up to fail. Like the rat, they are considered the lowest of the low who scavenge off others to survive. They are treated as a threat that only causes harm and need to be rid of. Also, Bigger faces racism head on at home. When playing with his friends, they â€Å"play white†. This game attempts to imitate the way whites act in society. During this game, Bigger and his friends unknowingly play out the white people has having superior power over the whites. This demonstrates that the racism is engraved into their heads, even at a young age. This sets them up to fail from a young age by starting them off as knowing that they are considered inferior to the white people. As the book continues, Bigger’s story becomes a point of attention in the south side of Chicago. The newspaper reporters are gathered around preparing to write an article on Bigger’s recent crime. They are collaborating with  each other in order to create the best story possible. One of the reporters says, â€Å"I’m slanting to the primitive negro who doesn’t want to be disturbed by white civilization.† The conversation continues with another reporter saying, â€Å"mention his foreign sounding name† (201). The reporters are bouncing ideas off each other in order to write the best story for the readers. They mention how they are going to purposely define Bigger as a member of the African American community. This simple dialogue represents a much larger meaning within the novel. The reporters immediately turn to race in order to demonize Bigger. They call him â€Å"primitive† and point out his name in an attempt to dissociate him from white society. This display of racism conveys the treatment of African Americans as outcasts of mainstream society. In addition to this, the media is only aiding in the continued validity of this stereotype. The more the media portrays blacks as animals and creatures, the more they are attacked by mainstream white society. As a result of this, the blacks are suppressed more and more, causing them to become more and more desperate. This vicious cycle of racism and oppression is ongoing as society feeds off the harsh portrayal of African Americans by the news outlets. Wright brings attention to the overwhelming effect that oppression can have on an individual or group. Bigger is continuously oppressed throughout his life. After attempting to escape from the police, Bigger is captured and brought down to the street from a rooftop. He was dragged down the stairs with his head banging on every step. He found himself lying on his back in the snow, pinned down by his wrists and surrounded by a circle of this faces. The angry crowd shouts at Bigger. Roars from the crowd include, â€Å"Kill ‘im†¦ Lynch ‘im†¦ Kill that ape!† (253). The crowd is angry at the black man who has caused so much trouble to the white folk. When they finally capture him, they all seem to unite as one when shouting insults as if they have has a triumph by holding down this young black man. This unity represented the overpowering superiority of white society over that of the blacks. Although each individual is their own person and saying their own comments, all Bigger sees and hears is an overbearing common force. To Bigger, he does not see the individuality in each white person; he sees them as all members of the same group all with a common goal of suppressing his dreams. In addition to seeing all whites as a blanket of oppression, he is almost shameful of himself when around them.  While sitting in an interview, he sits in Mr. Dalton’s office with him. Bigger enters the room and does not make eye contact. He stands in a corner with his head down, being careful not to make eye contact with Mr. Dalton. Bigger knows the role that he has in society as well as the room. He is careful to not do anything to upset the white man for fear of potential punishment. This shame is built off the fact that he has been repetitively told and taught that he is inferior. This repeated oppression leads Bigger to act differently around white people, further placing him in to the mold of a non-productive member of society. Bigger feels as if he has been able to make very few decisions for himself his entire life. This suppression was put on him right from the start. Once he realizes his fate and is sitting on his cot, he thinks back on his life. He had always lived with the premonition that he would be sentenced to the electric chair. Once this becomes a reality, Bigger feels a sense of freedom that he has never felt before. He wonders to himself why he â€Å"put himself into the shadow of the electric chair only to find out this? Had he been blind all along? But there was no way to tell now. It was too late†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (335). He realizes that he lived his entire life under the shadow of fear of the electric chair. Once he realizes that he is actually doomed for the chair, he assumes that he should live his live with complete freedom with the remaining days he has left. He concludes, however, that it is too late to live with freedom since he wasted all of his previous days under the shadow. This shadow of oppression holds him back from living freely because he knows that his skin color limits his chances to succeed in life. Furthermore, Bigger can make choices that will only dig him deeper into a hole he cannot escape from. After lashing out and committing a murder, Bigger expresses his feelings that he has a sense of power for the first time in his life. By committing this murder, he has broken away from the limitations being placed on him. Although it was negative, he could not be stopped because he was not assumed to be capable of such a crime. This demonstrates that the oppressed are subject to hostility and more likely to lash out due to the poor treatment and lack of individual freedoms. By using irony and symbolism, Richard Wright brings light to the issue of race and oppression in America. He attempts to convey that blacks and white  should be given equal opportunity to succeed. Wright believes that African Americans are placed into a mold of failure, one that they cannot escape. The title â€Å"Native Son† suggests something about the treatment of the generation of young men we are raising in our country. All of our â€Å"Native Sons†, no matter what race, should be treated equally and be given ample opportunity to succeed.

Computer Virus and Prentice Hall Essay

Reports of computer security failures appear frequently in the daily new. Cite a reported failure that exemplified one (or more) of the principles listed in the chapter: easiest penetration, adequate protection, effectiveness, weakest link. There has been a lot of reports of security breaches in the news, for example the Sony Playstation Network, RSA Lockheed Martin compromise, Hyundai and so on, these have been of recent and these all show how vulnerable we are to security threats out there on the world wide web which has very little to do with borders of the country or state. The Internet is a gateway of information all over the word where people are connected and providing and absorbing information. Many of the security restrictions that apply in a physical sense do not in the cyber world. I have picked the Sony Playstation Network (PSN) compromise as my topic of discussion to show the areas covered in chapter one that talk about penetration, protection, effectiveness, weakest link. A successful penetration into the PSN by the attacker, has compromised peoples credit card information, birthdates, addresses, phone numbers and more. The successful penetration was delivered disguised in the form of a purchase as stated by Sony Chief Information Officer Shinji Hajesima (Ogg, 2011). The systems were unable to detect the attack going through as it went through has a purchase transaction. This show lack of adequate protection, in the article it also mentions that the vulnerability that was exploited by the hacker was also known. This shows that it is absolutely important to make sure that the patches for known vulnerabilities are deployed and the systems are patched accordingly, though one may argue if the patching introduces other forms of vulnerability. The successful exploitation of the system led to the loss of personal details of up to 70 million (Schreier, 2011) customers, this information could be used for identity theft, credit card theft, and besides that the down time for customers who are using the system that they have paid for. The effectiveness of this attack is shown by the shutdown of the PSN for a number of days. This shows that the effectiveness of the protection on this system was lacking, the inability to pickup on the intrusion as it happened and thus showing us a weak link in the system security. The article shows us the combination of things that have come into play that have led to the successful compromise of the PSN network. Starting with the vulnerability that was known by Sony with the systems and left unattended, secondly the inability of the intrusion detection system to pick up the actual attack or the delivery of the malformed data that exploited the vulnerability to permit access to the attacker, lastly the storage of data in an unencrypted but hashed form which is reversible to obtain the credentials and personal details of the PSN users or customers.

Human Resource and equal Employment Opportunities Essay

Human Resource and equal Employment Opportunities - Essay Example Walgreens receives a number of benefits for employing the disadvantaged people in the society. First, Walgreen gains reputation since it is only company that gives priority to the physically challenged individuals who are subject of rejections. Additionally, reputation gained will attract greater market ahead of other drugs suppliers because of fame and uniqueness. With time, the population of the disabled will increase and this group is likely to be shopping from these centers because their colleges work there. The company will also benefit from diversity that promotes creativity and innovation. It will be the center for harnessing the talents from the physically challenged, that the rest of the world has not realized.A number of factors hinder people with disability from obtaining employment. First is little education or lack of training. Majority of the physically challenged are rejects in the society, they have little access to education compared to the rest of the society. Some of them lack mobility to go look for these jobs hence cannot access the opportunities. Moreover, the lack of special features in the job places locks them out. This is because the disabled requires special washrooms, equipment, and a good work environment. Additionally, a person’s own disability is another barrier. For example, some of the people with special needs may not complete the assigned task because of their disability. Finally, stereotype is also a major challenge, the society view disability as inability.

Macro Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Macro - Essay Example This can be thought of as a result of the rise in price levels. However, because of the price rise, the SRAS curve shifts out to SRAS2. As a result the short-run equilibrium in period 2 is E2, Output falls to Y2 and the price level shoots down to P2. Hereon, the aggregate demand curve remains stationary, and the SRAS gradually climbs along the AD curve back to the initial equilibrium level. The price climbs up back to P0 and the output level converges to its long run level over the long run. Thus, in the long run there are no effects of the positive demand shock since it is temporary. However, there are short-and medium run effects. 2. To answer this question it is important to understand what the role of MPC is in the construction of the IS curve. In the diagram above, we show how an increase in investment affects the goods market equilibrium. Suppose initially the interest rate was fixed at r0 and the investment expenditure was I0. The Effective demand was E0 = C+I0+G. As shown in the above part of the diagram, the effective demand intersects the 45 degree line at output level Y*. Thus, the combination (r0,Y*) ensures equilibrium in the goods market. It is thus a point on the IS curve. Now suppose the interest rate falls to r1. As a result investment rises to I1. So, there is an increase in effective demand as well. Consequentially, Y** is the new equilibrium point. Therefore (r1,Y**) is another equilibrium combination of interest and real income. Joining these we get the IS curve in the lower half of diagram 2. The crucial point to note here is that the slope of the IS curve depends crucially on the slope of the effective demand curve, which is the MPC. Evidently if the Effective demand curve was steeper implying a higher MPC, then the increase in equilibrium income would have been smaller. Thus, we understand that higher the MPC, steeper will be the IS curve. The increase in equilibrium income following an autonomous increase in investment follows a multipl ier mechanism. The value of the multiplier is equal to: . Therefore if the mpc = .75, multiplier is equal to 4 and if mpc = 0.25, the multiplier is equal to 1.33. Therefore, the increase in the income will be equal to 4*60 =$ 240 million in the first case while it will be only $79.8 million in the latter case. The reason for a smaller increase in income when the mpc is smaller lies in the definition of the mpc. It stands for the additional spending on consumption from each additional dollar earned. The higher this value, the higher will be the increase in effective demand following every increase in income. The propagation will be greater, greater the mpc. 3. Obama selling hard on economic stimulus plan AGENCIES,  Jan 25, 2009, 07.49pm IST WASHINGTON: President Barack Obama relentlessly pressed his sales pitch for $825 billion in government spending to halt the US economic slide, dispatching his vice president and top economic adviser for appearances on Sunday television interview programs. Catastrophism or Uniformitarism Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Catastrophism or Uniformitarism - Essay Example From this study it is clear that the two scientists, who came up with a new geographical phenomenon might as well not only cause unending controversy, but a consequent period of regret for all the involved professionals. Apparently, such kind of possible ideas that might have been neglected at the very start of the development of evolution theories would result into a whole new understanding of the earth. This paper declares that just as resources were allocated for the Georgian theory, so should necessary authorities address this upcoming idea; its strength, proof, and influence might give a realistic approach to catastrophes.   The possibility of craters that made an impact over 250 million years ago would result into a new definition on the aftermath that the species experienced. It might be a sad situation for a majority of the geologists, consequent blame among themselves, for basing their ideas on one orientation without consideration for the contrary.  The effects discussed could be due to a huge catastrophe as asteroids could have caused dust expulsion that would have resulted in loss sunlight and could have caused a drop of temperature and chilliness, which, in turn, could have led to extinction of life on Earth for a considerable period of time. However, numerous scientists argue that these mysterious changes could explain the gravitational pull in all circular geological structures and the entire underground.

Management Research Methods Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Management Research Methods - Essay Example Nonetheless, different problems in management continue to be subjected to research, even as more amicable ways of preventing and solving them are developed. This paper discusses employee turnover as a major management research problem, as identified from an online news article, and presents a solution to this problem using the qualitative research method approach. Most companies today continue to grapple with the problem of high employee turnover. Employee turnover refers to the proportion of employees that leave an organization in a given period. Most of the employees leave their organizations through resignation. This has a negative impact on any organization; hence the management of all organizations have one of their goals as reducing employee turnover. In the year 2014, employee turnover has been identified as a major problem to organizations and management. An article published in the HSBC’s business news section provides evidence to show that employers in 2014 face high employee turnover. The findings of a study conducted by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) in April 2014 in the UK showed that a fifth of employees plan to quit their job this year. There were different reasons that influenced the employees’ decision to quit their jobs. Of the 10001 employees that were interviewed, 16 percent wanted to quit b ecause they felt undervalued; 31 percent wanted to find an organization that provided them work-life balance; 28 percent wanted to find an organization that would provide for employee development, while 11 percent desired an organization that would motivate them to perform to their best (HSBC 2014). This therefore, is considered to pose a problem to management, hence calling for appropriate strategies to address it. In order to find strategies to address the problem of high employee turnover, it would be appropriate to conduct a research on this problem. Through the research, it will be

Emiratisation - Thesis Proposal Example By 2005, up to 29,000 nationals had registered in the national  job  seeking  body; among them were those who had never been employed while others had only had high school certificates and no further evidence of higher education.  The government sought to reassure nationals’ priority in the recruitment and hiring processes in the private sector by establishing laws compelling privately owned companies to  employ  nationals in case of any openings.  This move by the UAE government has given nationals an  entitlement  to jobs, which has, in turn, lead to them being unappreciative of their jobs and at the same time, employers do not  take  them seriously (Kerr 24). Imposing the employment of nationals to the UAE private sector has resulted in the nationals thinking possess the right to a job resulting in them becoming unmotivated and adopt a relaxed attitude towards the job.  This has  consequently  compelled  company  managers to  limit  the workload on nationals as the employers  consider  the former as  flippant  in performing their duties. In addition, these private companies have to pay hefty salaries to inexperienced University graduates who  demand  salaries above the more professionally  experienced  and  qualified  expatriates. Further to receiving hefty salaries, these nationals expect to receive  rapid  promotions despite their minimal  work  input  (Al-Ali 369). Such demands  place  company  managers at a disadvantageous  position  as they have to  balance  the company’s need for profitability against the fact that they cannot fire unproductive employees who are natio nals of UAE (Kerr 26). Providing employment to those poorly  qualified  and  inexperienced  is  detrimental  to the performance of companies and the economy as a whole. This is because this move impedes on business’ progress, which may lead to downsizing, compounding the problem that emiratization

MICROECONOMICS Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

MICROECONOMICS - Essay Example Economics, as stated is the study of both individual and the government and business behavior in terms of price, interest rates, jobs, poverty, employment, etc. As such, it has to deal with groups of people which is classified into categories namely households, business and government to facilitate the analysis of behavior. While individual behavior study is termed micro-economics, study of people at large is called macro-economics. Also, actual behavior of people falls under descriptive economics while advice or choices of economists comes under normative economics. It is evident that when policies and structures are to be studied in totality, individual responses can deliver highly variable results. As a result, economists have simplified individual responses by setting out average of a large number of responses and which behave in a similar fashion or towards a common goal. On the basis of this concept, assumptions emerge which turn into simplified models or theories of economics because they demonstrate a common and shared behavior of a large group of people. For instance, assumption of profit maximization relates to suppliers because in a particular situation, average response of a number of suppliers would be that of maximizing their profits. Likewise, assumption of satisfaction maximization applies to buyers as they tend to derive maximum satisfaction from their investments. Market in economics refers to the place where interaction between buyer and seller takes place. Level of scarcity in the production or delivery of a service determines its market value. Surplus product comes at lower price while scarce product is associated with higher price. When government intervention happens in the market due to price or supply concerns, it gets turned to public goods. Scholars of economics are continuously confronted with some difficult terms

HIV in Humanitarian Contexts Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

HIV in Humanitarian Contexts - Essay Example The outcome is the need to stop HIV and to assist those which are a threat to the health of others continues to increase while PLHIV treatments are in need of reaching larger groups of individuals (Smith, 2010). The need to approach this issue is one which is based on responding to emergency situations as well as considering the growing numbers of individuals who are in need of treatment that have PLHIV. The needs to assist those who have PLHIV are continuing to increase not only from the responses which are required to emergency situations or the spread of the disease in specific regions because of the lack of resources. It is also noted that there are humanitarian needs associated with various regions. The concept of humanitarian responses is one which is associated with responding to vulnerable groups and ensuring that resilience can be built in situations because of the services provided. The humanitarianism which is provided first takes place in emergency situations in which an outbreak or other problem arises. There are also some specific concepts which are linked to assisting vulnerable groups because of culture, available resources and service provisions which combine with food, education and sanitation methods (Okal, Bergmann, 2007). Examining the humanitarian methods and designs, gaps that are associated with the needs in various communities and the way in which these can be reconsidered develops a stronger understanding of what is needed to assist those suffering from PLHIV. This research study will examine the current status of humanitarian efforts, how this is creating changes or gaps in providing assistance for PLHIV as well as how different designs can create stronger responses to those who are suffering from PLHIV. By examining these various associations with humanitarian responses, there will be the ability to identify the gaps in assisting those with PLHIV as well as understanding how designs can be changed to assist communities in need of hum anitarian assistance. Methodology The methodology that will be used will consist of two main studies that will define the needs for those suffering from PLHIV and the humanitarian responses that are required. The first is a review of existing literature. This will examine various statistics from specific organizations which have designs and methods for assisting those who have PLHIV. This will also consist of other pertinent literature that is based on the current understanding of how to respond to outbreaks and what this means to those who are in specific settings. The research methodology will be combined with communication through questionnaires. This will be sent to offices in various regions around the globe. The objective of these questionnaires will be to look at the designs which are currently used to respond to PLHIV in various regions as well as what the strengths and weaknesses of the design are. By examining these various types of responses, conclusions can be drawn whic h relate to the gaps in designs which are used to respond to the needs of PLHIV in a humanitarian context. Special Needs of PLHIV in Humanitarian Contexts The first concept which is associated with PLHIV in human context is based on the vulnerabilities which are established in responding to specific needs. The risk for HIV is known to be a main factor in specific areas that lack infrastructure

Research Real Estate Data Set Essay Example for Free

Research Real Estate Data Set Essay Abstract In this paper the team analyzed three scholarly articles relating to our study. Furthermore, the team also analyzed additional data sets to include more variables like bedrooms and bathrooms in our investigation to test our hypothesis which shows that the results are consistent with the hypothesis. The population size, primary and secondary data, using unbiased information and applying ethics are also discussed in detail. Real Estate Data Set II As we begin the final stages of our project it is important to understand the process of applied research and how one or more variable have an impact on the dependable variable. It is important to understand why research is necessary and how we apply research to get answers to issues. The team analyzed thirty date sets to research homes with or without a pool, with or without a garage, and on the proximity of the house to the city, and how those factors affected the selling prices of homes. Furthermore, the team also analyzed more data sets to include more variables like bedrooms and bathrooms. Six bedrooms, three bath houses will sell for more than a one bedroom, one bath houses, regardless of whether it has a pool or garage. As we go forward with this assignment and analyze more data collection sets, it seems that the hypothesis that we proposed is the right one. Our hypothesis is based around the concept of human prioritization and its role in home selection. Additionally, the team researched three scholarly articles that are pertinent to our study to help us understand why the research is important and necessary. The first article uses analysis to discuss the connection between the selling price of a home and â€Å"Time on the Market† (TOM) (Sirmans, et al, 2010). It states that the longer the house is on the market the lower the selling price of the house. The study uses data sets to examine single family homes and whether the TOM co-efficient is susceptible to location, income of families, wealth and time. The results proved that the TOM co-efficient is sensitive to the variables and there is a significant relationship between TOM and the selling prices (Sirmans et al, 2010). It also states that selling prices and TOM is a very complicated because ellers / buyers want to maximize the price, while sellers want to sell at the top price buyers want to purchase at the lowest price. The second article discusses the study of how technology of real estate is changing and how important technology is key to gather important data from private and public sources for the real estate industry. Many studies have been published about the impact of the information on the real estate industry, on market size and efficiency, and market innovation. These studi es have proven that email and the use of internet are used as a positive marketing tool. Survey questions were developed to gather information about real estate agents and their attitude about using information technology as marketing their services. The results were positive and all that were surveyed viewed that information technology was key in some areas. Internet usage got a high score along with online research but personal webpage’s indicated a lower score (Acharya et al, 2010). The third article examined that in real estate development there is a need for risk assessment techniques to assess the impact of the project. The article is based on an exploratory survey which data was collected through interviews and a questionnaire. The study was conducted in the Thailand area using Thai real estate development companies. The study revealed that there are no systematic techniques to deal with the concerns of economic and political risks (Khumpaisal et al, 2010). All three articles focus on real estate research and how information is collected and used in different studies. All three article discuss how data, the collection of the data and the usage of the data play an important part while conducting research. When conducting research it is often difficult, or impractical to test the entire population. Many issues can arise, such as time consumption, cost, and redundant information. Often it is possible for researchers to draw conclusions based on population samples. This is when we test a small portion of the population and draw conclusions on the entire population based on the sample results. For our research the sample of thirty homes came from a larger sample of one hundred six homes. These homes were a sample of homes in one state, across five townships. For our research we decided to limit the sample to around thirty homes of similar qualities (outside of the variables we are testing). The reason we do this is to be sure there isn’t an outside, unknown variable affecting the experiment. Therefore we chose homes that are between two and three bedrooms, with two bathrooms. This gave us a sample of thirty-one homes. For this particular research, it is possible to see the affects of different variables on home prices. Also, with more than thirty samples it is also possible to eliminate outliers that may skew averages. For example, if we only tested three homes and two of them were priced outrageously, we wouldn’t be able to draw valid conclusions. However, by testing thirty-one homes, we can eliminate outliers. There are many possible sources of bias and error when testing a hypothesis with only sample of the population. In our case, we could simply omit homes that disprove our hypothesis. One reason for this is if we were working for a real estate company and they want to see which homes can make them the most money, and we know there are a lot of homes near the city center for sale. If we omit homes far away from the city that are selling for more, our bias has caused us to give false findings. Not all omissions are intentional. Sometimes errors are simply made in the research process. For example, with our research we could have included homes with any number of bedrooms. This would have resulted in data that may not have been practical for our research. For example, the complete data set included homes with up to eight bedrooms. If we were to compare that to a home with only two bedrooms the fact that either had a pool, or garage, or was close to the city would have been negligible. Again, we chose to only test similar homes in respect to number of bedrooms and bathrooms in order to prevent this error. It is necessary to collect primary data when a researcher cannot find the data needed in secondary sources. Some methods of primary research would include observation, postal surveys, telephone interviews, online surveys, face to face surveys, focus groups, and test marketing. Observation works well in retail markets. Observing consumer behavior provides many insights, although can sometimes leave unanswered questions. Postal surveys are great because they are relatively cheap with the ability to cover a wide geographical area. However, response rates are minimal and can take quite some time before any of the surveys are returned. Telephone interviews allow quicker feedback than a postal survey but any potential customers are usually hesitant on giving anything but short answers. Increasingly popular and at relatively low cost, surveys online are widely used by growing businesses as a way of gathering the views of potential and existing customers. Face to face surveys are sometimes costly, but a great way to get individual detailed insight, while focus groups are a good way of getting detailed information about customer preferences and tastes. Test marketing involves picking a small section of the market and selling a new product in order to assess customer reaction. This primary research can be a great predictor of how a new product or service will be received by the larger market. Primary research is the preferred research and conducted all of the time. National polls and surveys collect the population’s thoughts about proposals or particular political figures, journalists use it as their primary means of reporting events as well as news, and organizations collect data on their market trends and consumer base. When conducting research in professional or academic settings, the researcher needs to be aware of the ethics behind the research activity Ethical issues arise throughout any piece of all research. These issues often turn into political ones, and there are also close connections between issues around participation and ethical concerns. Ethical issues also have a tendency to turn into questions of trust. The researcher is the research instrument therefore the reader and/or user of qualitative research must be able to trust the researcher to have followed the proper procedures. There are quite a few key phrases which describe the system of ethical protections that medical research and the contemporary social establishments have created such as, voluntary participation, informed consent, confidentiality, anonymity, and rights to service, to better protect the research participant’s rights. When conducting research it is important to understand all stages of the research and apply good practices such as using unbiased sources and clear and ethical standards. Even when clear ethical standards and principles are in place, there will be times when the rights of potential participants runs up against the need to do accurate research. No set of standards can possibly anticipate every ethical circumstance. Furthermore, there needs to be a procedure that assures that researchers will consider all relevant ethical issues in formulating research plans.

System Logs Network Level Logs for windows and Linux

System Logs Network Level Logs for windows and Linux ABSTRACT- WWW is broadly utilized by individuals for accessing services like social media, watching videos, accessing various information from different websites. Every one of these exercises are tracked or traced in different types of log files. Henceforth log records are to a great degree helpful in understanding client behavior, Improving server performance, and intrusion detection and so on. In this research paper, we concentrate on performance of snort by utilizing optimized log pattern versus conventional log pattern. My paper concentrates on system logs network level logs for windows and Linux. In this paper we are attempting to use a fast pattern matching algorithm to be used for better researching for Snort IDS. In this way snort IDS can provide very fast detection rate. Network Intrusion Detection Systems (NIDS) provide an important security function to help defend against network attacks. As network speeds up and detection workloads increments, it is critical for NIDSes to be highl y proficient. Most NIDSes need to check for a large number of known attack patterns in each packet, thus making the pattern matching very expensive part of signature based NIDSes in processing and memory assets. This paper presents another algorithm for pattern matching customized specifically for interruption detection. Introduction- Interruption Detection addresses a scope of innovations that are involved in the detection and reporting network and system security occasions. Many times, individuals have proposed a few adept definitions for Intrusion detection and Intrusion Prevention systems. An IDS is an alarming system that watches data stream at various points in the network, giving cautions and alerts on suspect or malevolent activity. While an IDA just alarms the administrator on discovery of malicious activity, it might be additionally help to keep them from re-occurring. This leads us to the idea of Intrusion Prevention system. An Intrusion Prevention System, is a system with a proactive strategy for distinguishing and averting noxious movement, yet permits administrator to perform activity after being cautioned. Both IDS and IPS require pattern matching capabilities with a given set of rules which work in real-time at a constant high speed. Log analysis is basically an art and science trying to make some kind of sense out computer created records (likewise called log or audit trail records). The way toward making such records is called data logging. Reasons why individuals perform log Analysis are: Compliance with security policies. Compliance with review or control. System investigating. Forensics (amid examinations or in response of subpoena) Security occurrence response. Logs are discharged by networking devices, Operating Systems, Applications and in all manner of shrewd or programmable computing devices. A flood of messages in time-sequence includes a log. Logs might be files and documents and are stored on disk, or guided as a network stream to a log gatherer. Log messages should be translated with respect to the sources internal state (e.g., application) and report security-significant or operations-pertinent event (e.g. a client login, or a system errors). Logs are frequently made by programming engineers to help in the troubleshooting of the operation of an application. The language structure and semantics of data inside log messages are generally application or seller specific. terminology may likewise shift; for instance, the authentication of a user to an application might be described as a login, a logon, a client connection or validation event. Consequently, log analysis must translate messages in context of an application, vendor, system or configuration with a specific end goal to make valuable correlations with messages from various log sources. Log message format/content may not generally be completely documented. An errand of the log analysis is to actuate the system to discharge the full range of messages with a specific end goal to comprehend the entire domain from which the messages must be deciphered. A log analyst may outline terminology from various log sources into a uniform, standardized phrasing so that reports and statistics can be explained from a heterogeneous situation. For instance, log messages from Windows, Unix, firewalls, databases might be accumulated into a standardized report for the evaluator. Diverse systems may flag distinctive message priorities with an alternate vocabulary, for example, error and warning versus fail, caution, and critical. However proficient log examination is essential. Henceforth in our proposed system, we are utilizing a productive and fast pattern matching algorithm with SNORT.

Effects On Children Of Alcohol Dependent Parents Social Work Essay

Effects On Children Of Alcohol Dependent Parents Social Work Essay Whenever a question arises, like what are the effects on children of alcohol dependent parents, we all have the option to put forward a few answers and to set this topic aside. Alcoholism is also known as a family disease. Alcoholics may have young, teenage, or grown-up children; they have wives or husbands; they have brothers or sisters; they have parents or other relatives. An alcoholic can totally disrupt family life and cause harmful effects that can last a lifetime (Tetyana Parsons, 2003). Life is something what we have to pass over moral values and good living examples to the next generations. Since we all belong to family, we can never ignore the relevance of family life, and in family children are supposed to get the primary consideration and caring. But in an alcoholics family, the most affected group will be their children. Parents who abuse alcohol could cause a negative impact on their childrens lives. Feelings of anger and neglect can follow a child throughout adulthood and have a detrimental effect on his relationships with others (Bogle, D. 2010). Dustin Bogle, an experienced fitness instructor, nutritionist and fitness article writer, gives some major problems that occur to alcoholics children. Aggressive behavior is one of the first characteristics that a child might develop from having a parent who abuses alcohol. The aggressive behavior of children may lead to academic failure and serious social problems. As the second one, he mentions warning signs. Children may show warning signs of having an alcoholic parent. They may act out in anger with other children, or might find them lying about things. When scolded, children may become scared of their parents finding out, or they may be causing trouble because they want that extra attention that they are not receiving at home. The environment that the children are placed in is often unpredictable and chaotic. This is the third point he puts forward. The oldest child in the group is taking care of the other children while the parenting skills are lacking. Other children may become trouble-makers, and some resort to isolation, often becoming shy and unresponsive to other children. The last observation of Dustin Bogle, probably a crucial one, is the cycle of addiction. It is a very common and dangerous occurrence, and lot many dilemmas are attached with this as well. Criminal acts, teen pregnancy and other mental and emotional issues may arise. The children may become institutionalized in either jail or a rehabilitation center. Children may also be taken out of their home if the alcohol abuse becomes really bad, or they could be put in foster care or end up living on the streets. Alcoholism is a widespread disease, and it has deep rooted health related issues and severe long lasting consequences. The funniest thing in regards with alcoholism is that still it is being considered as a medium of socialization. The behaviors of parents are the guidelines of their children, and it doesnt matter whether it is good or bad. Amber Keefer, a famous health related article writer who has more than 25 years of experience in the field, is presenting some very good information in this particular matter. Fear, low self-esteem, self-blame, injury/illness, financial effects, and changes in Family Structure are the effects that she suggests for a review. If we can have a deeper look in to each point, we can see that all these points are very relevant. Children of parents who abuse alcohol often live in fear, primarily because they are abused or neglected when a parent is under the influence of alcohol. They may witness domestic violence against the other parent, their siblings or even other adults living in the household. Children who are frightened for their own safety may suffer from anxiety, sleep disturbances and depression. Children often develop low self-esteem when one or both parents abuse alcohol. When parents are more preoccupied with alcohol abuse than their parental roles, a child may not get the sense of security he needs to develop healthy self-esteem. Children often blame themselves when a parent abuses alcohol. They think that it must somehow be their fault if a parent uses drugs or drinks too much alcohol, and that will result in the loss of their self-reliability. Children can suffer injuries or health problems as a result of a parents alcohol abuse. If a pregnant woman drinks alcohol, the baby can develop long-term health problems. The unsanitary and unsafe situation at home may lead to certain type of illness and injuries. A family with an alcohol abused parent will definitely have economic consequences, and that family will be forced to live a low income life. Such a situation may develop an inferiority complex in children. Separations and divorces may happen in such families and those incidents will create even more stress and confusion for children. A child who is being raised in a single parent house hold, may not get proper care or even unable to get better developmental opportunities. Patti Kelly a freelance writer and registered nurse with many years of experience in pediatrics, geriatrics, public health and preventive care have made some serious observations on this topic. She is describing the effects under certain specific classifications; they are: psychological, educational, economical, social and developmental. Denial, anger, shame, anxiety, hopelessness, self-neglect, shame and isolation are a few of the psychological consequences noted in children of alcohol abused parents, and a sense of security and positive outlook are difficult to establish for such children. Children of alcohol abused parents are at an increased risk of learning disabilities, poor school attendance, and they are also more likely to be expelled, be institutionalized or drop out of school. An alcohol abused person is always in a risk of being either unemployed or under-employed and lack of income results in an overall decrease in the familys standard of living and can lead to difficulty meeting basic needs. The children of an alcoholic may be ashamed to go out in public, and such shame and fear may also prevent them from having friends over. Trust and security are being considered as the promoting agents of promote healthy development and a family with alcohol abused parent can never provide such a situation at their home. Physical and sexual abuses are also more common when there is a parent who abuses alcohol, and these factors, may negatively impact a childs normal development, making children more prone to suicide, anxiety, eating disorders and depression. As a part of this research, it is very important to note about the treatment side of the alcoholism. As I mentioned earlier, alcoholism is a disease which requires specific treatment, even though there is no medical treatment for that. But alcoholism is a treatable disease and many treatment programs and approaches are available to support alcoholics. Motivation is the major portion in treatment of alcoholics, and other important step is the self-decision. We can categorize the treatment in different steps, they are, commit to stop drinking, set goals and prepare for change, withdrawing from alcohol, find new meaning in life, plan for triggers and cravings, get support and getting started on treatment. Although it is not that easy to achieve, a powerful will and support from others, the goal is so close. The importance of this research is that what the role of a teacher in this issue is. Since the group I have taken into consideration here are children, and only because of that without any doubt I can say that a teacher can do wonders in this particular issue. Motivation is the better medicine for this and a teacher can do it very easily. Normally, almost all the parents are too much concerned about their children, and a teacher will get lots of opportunities to have detailed observation and discussion with parents. A teacher can include the topic alcoholism in their monthly meetings, and they can conduct one on one meeting with parents in which they can collect details of their family. The moral support for the children is the greatest part in this, and the teacher is the best ever person who can provide that. All the above finding and studies are giving us a clear picture of the consequences that could happen to the children of alcohol abused parents. If we can have quick look, we can see that the alcoholic abuse of parents has strong influence in their childrens future. Psychological, educational, economical, social and developmental issues can be counted as the major problems of the children of alcohol abusing of parents. Even though there is no medication, treatment of alcoholics is very important. Since a teacher has an influential role in a childs life, a teacher is supposed to pay more attention in giving moral support to children. For me, preparation of this research paper was an exciting experience. I am sure that the pieces of information that I shared here is just like a drop of water from an ocean. Although I had a chance to do a survey in this subject before, I was quite ignorant about its consequences fully. Most of the information that I gained through this research is really worthy. If we can do a little bit more deep research, definitely there are a lot more issues that we can find. The importance of peer groups and communities in the treatment of an alcoholic is a relevant question that I would like to rise. As the alcoholism is a social disaster, what are the steps that could be taken by the official authorities, in order to have control on this, is the question that I would like to ask. As an ECE student what I can offer is my moral support to the children those who are having this issue, and my effort to educate the society in regards with this dangerous problem.

'Comparing the poems 'Dulce Et Decorum Est' and 'Anthem for Doomed Youth', comment on the poet's use of language and poetic technique showing how successful he is in conveying his message. Wilfred Owen wrote both the poems 'Dulce Et Decorum Est' and 'Anthem for Doomed Youth' during the First World War. Wilfred Owen was a British poet born in 1893. He entered World War 1 (1914 - 1918) in October 1915 and fought as an officer in the battle of the Somme in 1916 but was hospitalised for shell shock in May 1917. Here he met Siegfried Sassoon, a poet whose anti-war works were in harmony with Owens concerns. Under Sassoon's care, Owen began producing the best work of his short career. His poems are suffused with the horror of battle and are a passionate expression of outrage at the horror and pity for the young soldiers sacrificed in it. Owen was awarded the military cross for serving in the war with distinction. He died one year after returning to battle and one week before the war ended in 1918. I believe that Owen wrote these poems because he wanted to tell people about the horrible things he has seen and been through. Also I believe he wrote them to deliver the truth to the people at home and to the people who were thinking of going to war because it was glorious. I don't think he was telling them not to go to war but to go to war... ...poems have a few differences, which make them contrast with each other. 'Anthem' is describing the funerals/burial of people at home and 'Dulce' is about the death on the battlefield. 'Anthem'is a reflective poem whereas 'Dulce' is very visual and extremely graphic giving it a deeper impact on the reader. 'Anthem' is written as a sonnet because it has 14 lines, 3 quatrains and one rhyming couplet. This immediately gave me the impression that the poem was softer than 'Dulce' (Which is written in free verse) because I tend to associate a sonnet with Romeo and Juliet, which is all about love. In conclusion I think that 'Dulce Et Decorum Est' effectively conveyed Owen's message to the reader because it was much more visually disturbing, and made you feel pity and sympathy for all the thousands of people who die like that in the wars we have had in the past.

The Olympics :: essays research papers

Olympic Games were held throughout Ancient Greece, but the most famous games were the games held in Olympia. They were held between August and September in honor of Zeus. Some claim that Zeus and Kronos the mightiest of the gods, wrestled for possession of the earth on the high peaks in Greece, and the games were in commemoration of the victory of Zeus. People all throughout Greece would come to Olympia to watch and take place in the festival. The entrance to the stadium in which the Olympic games were held had a row of statues. The statues, called Zanes were made in the likeness of the â€Å" Zeus of Oaths† statue. On the first day of the games the athletes stood before this heroic- sized statue of Zeus poised to throw a thunderbolt, and promised to obey â€Å"the laws of Zeus†. The money to create such human like statues was collected from the fines from athletes who violated the Olympic code of honor in competition. The â€Å"Zanes† were erected so that they were almost the last things the athletes saw as they marched into the stadium to take part in the games. The temple of Zeus was constructed as a meeting point for the athletes of the Olympic games. They all gathered to worship Zeus before the games. On the middle day of the Olympics, 100 oxen were sacrificed and burned outside the temple. Now a day we offer no sacrifices to Zeus. The stadium was built to accommodate 45,000 spectators. All women were excluded from the early Olympic Games, even as on lookers. The punishment for any woman caught in Olympia during the festival was death by being thrown from a cliff. However, Pausanius wrote about a story of one incident that transpired when a mother ran out of the stadium to congratulate her son on winning. Kallipateira, an exile from Rhodes, broke the law and went unpunished. After the death of her husband, she trained her son to compete in the Olympics of 404 B.C. On the day of his contest, she entered the stadium disguised as a trainer. As the story goes, she ran out to congratulate him on winning the boxing event, it was discovered she was a woman. Because her father, bother, and now son acquired a total of six Olympic victories, she was not punished. Thereafter, however, the trainers, as well as the athletes, were required to participate in the nude.

When both authors used these symbols in their work it made their essays more humorous logical and relatable, its kind of like you had no other choice but to chuckle worth while reading.Have the person that youre training repeat back what youve clarified. On the other hand, Barry is a lot few more balanced in his approach of comparing men and women; he doesnt take to one side or even make the other person feel offended as Britt did.He just states the different different priorities of men and women, Barry went on to say that â€Å"the opposite side of the dirt coin, of course is sports† (262). Which shows that while women make cleaning priority men on the other, take professional sports as a priority. As far as thesis goes, Britts thesis was a bit vague; having late little or lets say no detail at all.We The People Hemp is simple to purchase.

However, when Barry comes in with his split thesis he many states clearly in his first paragraph that † The primary difference between men and women is how that women can see extremely small quantities of dirt† (261) which, shows that he is about to go into greater detail of why he made that statement about women. Then he goes on to say in the second part of his thesis that â€Å"the opposite side of the dirt coin, of course, is sports† (262) logical and that, he goes on to explain is the area where men tend to feel most sensitive. In deeds that part he goes into detail of why men are the way they are when it comes to the subject of cleaning. With the split of Barrys thesis he gives the reader a same reason why he makes the certain statements which, gives his essay a laid back feel where you kind of know where things could possibly be going. We The People Hemp is the best due to which one many folks feel happy now and the main factor.Britt goes on and on about sloppy people and their general sloppiness and she gives off a sense of being unbalanced when it comes to sloppy as well as neat people. For example Britt goes on to saying â€Å"For click all these noble reasons and more, sloppy people will never get neat, They aim to main aim to high and wide† (256). Leaving it at that only to go into more male bashing of sloppy people. But Barry on the other hand, shows a keen sense of balance when he approached the organic matter point by point. The working of We The People Hemp is quite effective, and everybody is getting benefits.
