Make Hot Ice From Vinegar and Baking Soda

Make Hot Ice From Vinegar and Baking Soda Sodium acetic acid derivation or hot ice is an astonishing substance you can set yourself up from heating pop and vinegar. You can cool an answer of sodium acetic acid derivation underneath its liquefying point and afterward cause the fluid to take shape. The crystallization is an exothermic procedure, so the subsequent ice is hot. Cementing happens so rapidly you can frame designs as you pour the hot ice. Quick Facts: Hot Ice Science Experiment MaterialsBaking SodaVinegarConcepts IllustratedSupercoolingCrystallizationExothermic Chemical ReactionsTime RequiredFrom all the way, this analysis takes about 60 minutes. When you have the hot ice, you can rapidly soften and recrystallize it.LevelBeginner to Intermediate LevelNotesThe synthetic substances in this analysis are non-poisonous. Be that as it may, on the grounds that fluids are bubbled, grown-up management is suggested. This venture is best for center school or more. Sodium Acetate or Hot Ice Materials 1-liter clear vinegar (powerless acidic acid)4 tablespoons preparing pop (sodium bicarbonate) Set up the Sodium Acetate or Hot Ice In a pot or enormous measuring utencil, add heating soft drink to the vinegar, a little at once and mixing between options. The preparing pop and vinegar respond to shape sodium acetic acid derivation and carbon dioxide gas. On the off chance that you dont include the preparing soft drink gradually, youll basically get a heating pop and vinegar fountain of liquid magma, which would flood your holder. Youve made the sodium acetic acid derivation, yet it is too weaken to ever be helpful, so you have to evacuate the greater part of the water. Here is the response between the heating pop and vinegar to deliver the sodium acetic acid derivation: Na[HCO3]†CH3â€COOH â†' CH3â€COO†Na H2O CO2Boil the answer for concentrate the sodium acetic acid derivation. You could simply expel the arrangement from heat once you have 100-150 ml of arrangement remaining, however the most effortless approach to get great outcomes is to just heat up the arrangement until a precious stone skin or film begins to frame on a superficial level. This took me about an hour on the oven over medium warmth. In the event that you use lower heat you are less inclined to get yellow or earthy colored fluid, yet it will take longer. On the off chance that staining happens, its alright. When you expel the sodium acetic acid derivation arrangement from heat, quickly spread it to forestall any further dissipation. I emptied my answer into a different holder and secured it with cling wrap. You ought not have any precious stones in your answer. On the off chance that you do have precious stones, mix an exceptionally modest quantity of water or vinegar into the arrangement, only adequate to disintegrate the crystals.Place the secured holder of sodium acetic acid derivation arrangement in the fridge to chill. Exercises Involving Hot Ice The sodium acetic acid derivation in the arrangement in the cooler is a case of a supercooled fluid. That is, the sodium acetic acid derivation exists in fluid structure beneath its typical liquefying point. You can start crystallization by including a little gem of sodium acetic acid derivation or perhaps even by contacting the outside of the sodium acetic acid derivation arrangement with a spoon or finger. The crystallization is a case of an exothermic procedure. Warmth is discharged as the ice structures. To show supercooling, crystallization, and warmth discharge you could: Drop a gem into the holder of cooled sodium acetic acid derivation arrangement. The sodium acetic acid derivation will take shape in no time, working outward from where you included the gem. The precious stone goes about as a nucleation site or seed for quick gem development. Despite the fact that the arrangement just came out of the cooler, on the off chance that you contact the compartment you will discover it is presently warm or hot.Pour the arrangement onto a shallow dish. On the off chance that the hot ice doesn't unexpectedly start crystallization, you can contact it with a precious stone of sodium acetic acid derivation (you can ordinarily scratch a modest quantity of sodium acetic acid derivation from the side of the holder you utilized before). The crystallization will advance from the dish up toward where you are pouring the fluid. You can develop towers of hot ice. The towers will be warm to the touch. You can re-dissolve sodium acetic acid derivation and re-use it for exh ibits. Hot Ice Safety As you would expect, sodium acetic acid derivation is a sheltered substance for use in exhibits. It is utilized as a food added substance to upgrade flavor and is the dynamic synthetic in numerous hot packs. The warmth created by the crystallization of a refrigerated sodium acetic acid derivation arrangement ought not present a consume risk.

Concert Essay free essay sample

This paper inspects my tasteful social foundation and primary impacts for a mind-blowing duration. I was conceived in Istanbul which is the capital city of Turkey; be that as it may, my dad and mom were conceived in Kenya. Turkey has assumed a significant job throughout the entire existence of the world. With respect to the way that Turkey Is an Islam nation, Turkeys significance on the planet is truly elevated. The principle basic explanation behind that is on the grounds that Turkey is the main nation which isn't just common and vote based, yet in addition Salamis also. In view of the statistics information gathered in 2000, Turkey has a 96. Muslim populace. The impact of Islam on the Turkish individuals is a verifiable reality. The Turkish individuals have confronted with Islam during the war among China and Arabs in 751. In 920, the principal Turkish government acknowledged to be Muslim was the Caravans. With the acknowledgment of Islam, accepts of the Turkish individuals have changed definitely. The Concerto No. 3 in F significant utilizations indistinguishable gatherings of wind instruments, each contained a bassoon, a couple of oboes and horn. The bunches go to and fro exchanging calls and reverberating every others phrases. By and large I felt this was a decent piece to tune in to. The suggestion was moderate and rich and drove into a quick, cheerful, energetic development that included bunches of strings. It was a delightful piece both for tuning in and playing. The conductor was enthusiastic and you could enlighten that he was extremely energetic regarding this polyphonic finished piece. I adored how inside the developments the instruments were exceptionally emotional, boisterous and redundant. Mendelssohn Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor was the following piece to be played by the orchestra.Overall, It was my preferred piece in light of the fact that the piano player was totally stunning, despite the fact that the concerto begins with strings. Felix Mendelssohn was conceived on February 3, 1809 in Hamburg. His first execution of this piece occurred on October 17, 1831 while he played the console and directed simultaneously. This reality I discovered totally astounding and very Intriguing. At an early age Mendelssohn had demonstrated his capacity In the field of symphony by delivering his first huge scope works including A Midsummer Nights Dream suggestion during his adolescence.Focusing on the music of this piece notwithstanding, Piano Concerto No. 1 in G minor uncovers numerous characteristics of the Romantic period style. There are three developments to this ice anyway they are crossed over to shape a continuous length of music. This piece was exceptionally sensational with shows that started and finished up developments. The songs are bright and the striking G minor tonality gives the third development a lighter character, that closes with an invigorating shutting section. While on the subject of Mendelssohn, I will talk about his second piece that was played as well.Symphony No. 5 in D major wasnt my preferred piece by any means. As a 1 OFF Mendelssohn originally played out this Symphony in Berlin on November 15, 1832. This piece bears the title of Reformation fully expecting the 30th commemoration of the Sagebrush Confession, which was one of the key occasions in the Protestant revolt drove by Martin Luther against the Catholic Church. Which generally speaking this is fairly diverting in light of the fact that Mendelssohn was raised in a Jewish home, and composed his music as indicated by the convictions of Luther and the Protestants. Orchestra No. In D major poppa, Reformation concerning the early Protestant development. One can hear this in the principal development. Despite the fact that the development gets looking moderate so far, emotional horns come in and uproariously interfere with the delicate, quiet way of the strings. This piece is profoundly enthusiastic with the battle f Martin Luther. The triumphant closure finishes up the ensemble. This piece being the most sensational of the entirety of the pieces played at Powell Hall. At last, we come to Franz Joseph Haydn. Haydn was conceived on March 31, 1732 in Austria. The principal execution of his Symphony No. 9 out of A significant Fire is obscure, however it is sure that Haydn coordinated the principal execution no later than 1769, with the symphony in living arrangement at the domain of his boss. Primes orchestras are more than one hundred in number and originate from the Classical period. It is obscure why this specific orchestra got the name Fire for in y supposition it doesn't seem like what I envision a fire seeming like. In the initial development the music is blasting of cadenced vitality, with numerous boisterous and delicate elements and bold melodic jumps which gives the development an impression of momentum. The second development is moderate and charming. Songs differentiate and follow each other in an alternate, yet fascinating way. The last developments topic is a variety of the primary song, with a sensational finale. Generally, I should state that I truly delighted in heading off to the SST. Louis Symphony Orchestra. I imagine that the exhibition was decent, despite the fact that I wouldnt have hoses to play those pieces (they made me need to nod off). The conductor did an ere great job, was exuberant and engaging to watch to state the least. Now, if one somehow happened to inquire as to whether I would go again to see that equivalent show, my answer would most likely be no. I Nullity go through my cash to go see something that makes me need to nod off :anyway there were exhibitions like Disney, or anything Bach or Beethoven that Nullity be such repulsive to see). The music was agreeable and I truly enjoyed the experience Except for the old bare person who continued pivoting and giving me grimy searches for taking notes to compose this report.

Laws are not strong enough against animal cruelty and people do not know about this problem because it is not as prominent as others. Some of the reasons humans kill animals is for food, clothing, and entertainment. The way we kill animals in doing these are very brutal and inhumane. The only thing they care about is to produce a mass amount of meat, in a short period of time, and with little food to feed the animals. The last thing they are worried about is the animal itself and its feelings and needs. Food factories are very disgusting places because of the way they kill animals. The cows are then hung upside down and the workers slit the throats of the cows. After the cut, the cows begin thrusting around do to the immense pain, and are left there until they bleed out and die. Many of the cows are also hit and kicked and stomped on if they do not cooperate. In the video No Mercy - Calf Farm Cruelty Exposed it depicts many cows getting hit repeatedly in the head with a hammer. The cows are clearly still flailing and moving after the first blow. It takes many blows before the cow stops moving and it can feel every blow until it falls unconscious or dead. After watching that video Dr. Terry Engle stated A number of calves are covered with nasty, open sores which very likely come from their being bedded on quicklime with no straw protecting them from its corrosive effects. The handling of these calves is also so outrageous as to count as cruelty, as when the animals are roughly and painfully picked up by the ears and tail, something so obviously hurtful that one hardly needs any experience with calves to know that it is wrong. Because cows with cancerous and puss filled wounds’ meat is still certified to sell they go untreated. Various types of recorded business materials for including lectures and radio broadcasts Bonaccorsi et al. (2011) business experts of a particular business organization should use the utilization various technologies in order to collect information with the help of different business sources. Recorded business includes radio broadcast, different broadcast from television, marinating business records in the computer and so on. From those sources business experts can collect necessary information in order to develop their plan in the process. discussing summary notes of different recorded materials In a radio broadcast, it has been noticed that Tesco had included more employees in their customer relation department in order to provide an effective service to the customers. This particular broadcast had a greater influence for the small business industries. They had come to know how Tesco has maintained effective customer relation for satisfying the demand of the customers. Doloreux and Shearmur (2013) opined that business experts of those small industries have maintained this particular strategy in order to create a market demand being influenced from Tesco. Therefore, recorded business materials play a great role for the business planning development. Demonstrating importance of complex recorded business materials Complex recorded business materials include the database that a particular company like to maintain for keeping a constant control over the entire process of business. Moreover, the feedback of the existing staffs regarding the business development plan has also been fallen in the category of the recorded business materials (Dreher and Gray 2009). LO3: Producing written analysis on case study on business In this particular part, the concept of genre and the complex task have been discussed in detail. The effect of non-routine business problem has also been discussed here. Non-routine business problems include natural disaster, technological crisis and so on. Moreover, the relationship between cause and effect has also been discussed in this specific assignment. This particular part provides an understanding on the business and economic growth in UK, which is received from the case study. Discussing genre through the analysis of a complex task Genre is a very familiar form of communication developed by the group of business people for maintaining an effective communication with each other. Genre has been divided into many classifications such as speech genre, writing genre and so on. Fagan (2011) stated that maintaining conversation over telephone is the part of speech genre. On the other hand, message through email is the part of writing genre. Complex task is the process of collecting data or various properties that has been inherited by a task. For an example, a particular task becomes more complicated when it possesses higher priority in the short. For the cause of unavailable resources, it becomes more difficult to execute properly. In this particular assignment the area of human resource management have been chosen in order to develop business plan. As a human resource manager, I have to develop a business plan in order to overcome various crises. These are the primary tools of making effective communication process with the customers. As per the case study, the customer spending growth has become stronger in the year 2015 to 2016 in UK. The retail organizations of UK such as Tesco, Asda have implemented of Genre within their organization for developing their communication skill that would help to interact with the customers effectively. Developing how to face non-routine business problems Non-routine business problem refers to those problems that are unpredictable in most of the cases. For an example, if the companies of UK have to face any kind of crisis because of natural disaster, it is called non-routine business problem. Sudden strike, financial crisis, technological problems fall in the category of non-routine business problem. Katzberg and Lamba (2009) opined that non-routine problems cannot be predicted initially. Therefore, as a responsible human resource development manager I should take some necessary initiatives in order to overcome the crisis. I should provide an effective training to the customer service department of my organization in such a way that they can convince the customer about the temporary crisis. Customer service providers have to deal with the matter very sincerely so that the image of the organization does not become affected because of this non-routine business problem. This case study has maintained that non-routine business problem has affected the international growth of the emerging markets of China. Describing cause and effect relationship Cause and effect relationship is a concept that one particular event happens for the cause of other events. More specifically, one cause may have many effects. While establishing cause effect relationship, it can be stated that cause has to take primary responsibility in order to make effect happens. For an example, if human resource development managers instruct to follow autocratic leadership style within the organization, the employees would not be able to share their views with the leaders for achieving the business goal. Levenburg and Magal (2014) opined that therefore, maintaining autocratic leadership within the organization is the cause because of which employees fail to participate or share their views towards the business goal. For an example, if a sudden strike made by the workers of TESCO for the cause of remuneration can be cause, the effect would be the downfall in the entire process of business. Explaining academic hedging and caution Academic writing means making distinguishing between claims and facts. This feature is termed as hedging. People tend to use hedge language in order to fulfil various purposes that include minimizing the possibilities to make a claim, enabling a person to use the strategy of politeness and so on. Lind (2009) stated that Caution signifies careful attitudes in order to avoid any harm or danger. In order to make a business development plan this particular tern is very much relevant as it provides an in-depth knowledge in order to understand how to overcome danger or any harm while executing business development plan. In addition, caution is very much important in order to overcome crisis whether it is routine or non-routine. The primary function of hedging and caution is to reduce the possibilities of claims. In has been noticed from the case study that the overall market of UK business has remained comparatively favourable to them. The primary reasons are use of effective caution and hedging process, maintaining cause and effect process inside the organization, maintaining genre and so on. LO4: Describing how to make effective communication in the business situations using suitable presentation of techniques This particular part has concentrated to highlight the effectiveness of participating in various group workers, seminars and so many. The opinions of others have also been presented here regarding the business development plan. The relevance of appropriate communication skill has also been presented in this study. Participating in different business situations as well as working groups For participating in various business situations, attending seminar or attending different group discussion is very much important in order to evaluate the skill regarding the process of business. Attending seminar is important to receive collective ideas about a particular business situation (Morton and Robbins 2011). For an example, if I as a human resource manager of an organization intend to attend seminar, I would be automatically develop my personal skill. Many business experts at the same field tend to gather at a seminar. They like to provide their plan and process of business that may be more effective as well as innovative than my plan. In this way, it helps immensely in order to gather much information regarding a particular plan. Giving opportunities to the others for contributing their ideas and opinion Ryzhikova (2014) opined that seminars hall is not constituted with one particular member. Different personalities like to arrive for attending business conference or seminar. They share their views about their plan and execution process. On the other hand, they hear the speech of other business expert how this particular person has developed their human resource management set up in order to reach the business goal. In these ways, business experts get a collective view. As per this skill, they can utilize those plans as per the ethics, values and culture of their organization. Demonstrating how to assimilate relevant information that is communicated by others Assimilation is the cognitive process based on which one particular individual gather necessary information and incorporates that information to their knowledge and skill. There are various ways in order to collect or assimilate information within the organization. One of the effective ways of assimilating information is maintaining note pad in order to keep necessary information recorded. Smirnova (2015) stated that it is somehow one of the most conventional processes that has become very old. Besides, utilization of technology is the very innovative in order to assimilate knowledge and information from the seminar hall. Demonstrating suitable skill for presentation and non-verbal communication skill for making presentation Presentation skill is very important in order to provide an effective presentation in a seminar hall regarding the development of business plan. One of the most effective tools of good presentation is confidence. The presenter while provide an important presentation regarding the business development plan needs the clarity of voice, correct flow of information, perfect voice module and voice scanning (Tse 2009). Discussions for achieving activities In order to achieve various activities for business planning the business expert of an organization needs to follow some effective activities in order to run a business successfully (Van Rooij 2014). One of the most effective activities that every business expert needs to follow is that maintaining strong interpersonal communication inside the organization. For that purpose, different organizations need to arrange necessary meeting and conference so that each employee gets enough opportunity to interact with others (Yuen 2010). Self reflection on performance for setting future learning goals and objectives I as a human resource development manager, while participating in the seminar regarding the business development plan and process generally tend to share my point of view first. After that, I like to note down the conspicuous speeches of eminent managers while sharing their views regarding the business development. I tend to implement those innovative plans in my business process so that I can easily achieve the target. Speech of a particular business expert can be collected with the help of audio-visual records so that it can be utilized when it is necessary. In this case, the recorder does not have to struggle for making records correctly, as it is done by the technology itself. Marinating notebook is quite laborious, as the experts have to write perfectly the speech of the speaker. Conclusion: Communication skill and study is truly important in order to develop the business plan and process. It helps the business expert to deliver the message to the receiver accurately so that no communication barriers arise in between the sender and the receiver. Therefore, for the success of business organization and for the benefit of individuals career, presentation skill is very much important. In addition, through the process of effective presentation, individual can enhance personal development skill as well. Reference List: Abdin, J. 2010. U.S. Switch to Metric System free essay sample

The United States Should Switch to the Metric System One crucial, yet widely unnoticed issue plagues the United States of America today: the country simply faces a stubborn unwillingness to convert to the metric system. America spends millions of dollars on keeping the U. S. customary system in place. The refusal to convert hinders the country’s progress in the global economy. A conversion failure even sent a poor satellite hurtling towards destruction on the surface of Mars (Wheeler). The United States needs to convert to the metric system as soon as possible. The metric system consists of a decimal system containing units of volume, mass, temperature, and length in liters, grams, degrees Celsius, and meters. It stands as, by far, the most widely used unit system in the world. Gabriel Mouton of France created the original metric system in 1670 (MacLeod). The system spread through most of Europe by the mandate of Napoleon Bonaparte during his reign as Emperor of France (MacLeod)(Appendix A). We will write a custom essay sample on U.S. Switch to Metric System or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Since the beginning of America, people campaigned to use the metric system instead of the Customary System, which the United States inherited from Britain. Two of America’s presidents, Thomas Jefferson and John Quincy Adams, endorsed the metric system in the early years of the United States, but despite their efforts, they never managed to convert the country (Chapman). Later, in the 20th century, movements such as the Metric Conversion Act of 1975 and the Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act of 1988 were passed with the intention of enforcing the metric system. Today, the metric system has still not been established in America, despite multiple attempts to do so. The fight for the metric system has been occurring for hundreds of years, which seems like enough time for congress to pass at least one piece of legislation regarding the issue. Two hundred years ago, George Washington, the first president of the United States, articulated his desire for â€Å"uniformity in currency, weights and measures† (MacLeod). Since then, not much has changed. However, politicians in the past have given it their best effort. In 1975, the U. S. Metric Conversion Act, which encouraged the voluntary transition to the metric system by companies, was passed by Congress, but it faced the intense scrutiny of Americans who thought it was a gambit by Russian Communists to weaken America (Garfinkel). In 1988, the Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act was passed, requiring all government agencies to use the metric system, though only 22 of 37 complied (Chapman)(Appendix B). This law, however, is still in effect. This means that not only is it foolish not to use the metric system, it is also illegal in the public sector. Most other countries in the world mandated the metric system years ago, but when they did it, their citizens actually listened. Why does the United States still cling to the U. S. Customary System of Measurements, while all the other countries in the world, excluding Liberia and Myanmar, follow the metric system (Bohren and Strauss)? Credence can be lent to the assumption that if everyone else is doing something, then there is very likely a good reason, and it is best to follow suit. Most of the world uses the metric system; therefore, in order to keep up with the world, especially in terms of trade, it is necessary that the United States convert to the metric system as well. As Michael Chapman said, â€Å"international trade involves metric-sized products. † Applying the metric system to U. S. trade will create new jobs for the new markets created and increase trade by an estimated 20% (Chapman). Metric-sized exports will particularly increase trade with Canada, Mexico, and many European countries, which have already mandated the metric system and have no need for the current U.S. exports measured in inches and feet (Chapman). Currently, such countries do not like trading with the U. S. due to the complexity of its measurement system and the conversions that must be made. Americans, however, seem to think that the metric system is the one that complicates things. If there is one thing Americans love, it is simplicity. For this reason, it is surprising tha t they would choose to keep around an archaic system of weights and measures whose definitions and conversions are murky even to the most intelligent people. The metric system is much simpler than the English Customary system; everything is a multiple of 10. One meter is equal to 100 centimeters, which is equal to 1000 millimeters. Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius and freezes at zero degrees Celsius. One centimeter cubed is equal to one milliliter. It is a very simple system with conversions that are easy to compute and easy to remember. Meanwhile, English Customary System units do not convert so easily. One gallon is equal to eight pints. One yard is equal to three feet. One mile is equal to 1,760 yards. One foot is equal to 12 inches. Water boils at 212 degrees Fahrenheit and freezes at 32 degrees Fahrenheit. These conversion factors are all based on different numeral values and are extremely difficult to remember. Along with that, there are several random and silly extra measures of weight and area such as tons and acres, which just add more values to remember. According to a National Review article from 2011, the English Customary System is in fact so inconsistent that its units have been defined in terms of metric units since Grover Cleveland was president. If Americans truly value simplicity, then the logical step would be to simplify measurements and switch to metric. Along with love of simplicity, Americans also hate confusion. An article from 1994, in the Associated Press, gives another reason against the metric system; the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found that the majority of Americans were concerned it could be confusing (Associated Press). The majority of Americans, it appears, do not like change, and would rather struggle with their medieval English Customary System than switch to a better, albeit different, metric system. It is true that the new units will take some getting used to, especially to those who have spent their entire lives with the English Customary System. It is also true that some people may be ripped off or swindled due to their lack of understanding of value per unit. However, the human brain has an amazing capability to change and as a result, most people will catch on to the new system soon enough. Over time, as new generations are taught in the ways of the metric system and the intransigent older generations die off, the metric system will become the norm, leaving the English Customary System as nothing but a relic. Hopefully the younger generations will have minds open enough to see past the financial barrier of switching to the metric system, and on to the benefits it entails. The United States of America is currently trillions of dollars in debt, so it seems that right now the last thing the country needs is another huge, money-consuming project. Switching to the metric system would be just that. In order to completely metricize the country, all remnants of the English Customary System would be cast away. That means millions of dollars’ worth of machine parts, tools, electronics, and English Customary System-measured products would be wasted. Almost every tool involved in manufacturing would have to be modified, replaced, or repurposed. â€Å"The Nuclear Regulatory Commission estimates that it will cost the agency $2 to $3 million to convert to metrics† (Chapman). That is two to three million dollars to convert just one of hundreds of government industries. Added up, it would cost the United States government untold billions of dollars to convert to the metric system. However, an important thing to recall regarding this situation is NASA’s Mars Climate Orbiter, which in 1999 went careening off course and was either destroyed by Mars’ atmosphere or lost in space. This was caused mostly by a simple failure to convert units from English Customary to metric (Wheeler). The loss of the $125 million satellite was one blunder out of the multiple potential blunders that might occur due to the United States continuing to use the English Customary System. If things continue the way they are going, over time, these mistakes will add up to more than the billions of dollars it would take to metricize the nation. Should the United States switch to the metric system, it is also probable that the aforementioned trade benefits from doing so will eventually outweigh the cost of conversion. As an added bonus, to make the switch, thousands of new jobs will need to be created to make new parts and adjust machines. This will decrease the high unemployment levels that are plaguing the nation, and the economy will be boosted by the influx of money from the newly employed individuals. Overall, the future will be brighter and more profitable than the traditions which the United States holds on to. Tradition weighs heavily in the actions and decisions of Americans. Citizens of the United States try to evince the spirit of patriotism by holding onto traditions in whatever way then can. One of those traditions is the English Customary System, which has been a part of America since it began and can almost be considered a part of the culture. The English Customary System is all that many people know in terms of systems of units. It does not matter if it is not the best system in the world; it has been around since the start and the common mentality stands that, â€Å"If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. † To convert to the metric system would mean that, â€Å"Workers would have to be retrained, tools replaced, machinery modified, map distances changed, etc. Food and clothing sizes would change. Everything† (Chapman). Nobody wants to go through all that, especially when he or she is committed to a system that is hundreds of years old and a part of their country’s culture and patriotism. However, that may not be the most patriotic mindset to have. In reality, many of the founding fathers and first presidents, the original patriots, were opposed to the English Customary system and rallied behind the metric system to be the national standard (MacLeod). So, in essence, to be truly patriotic would be to follow the standards set by the founding fathers and support the metric system. Despite the fear that surrounds change, changing the United States’ culture will not necessarily a negative outcome. Cultures change all the time to adapt to the current era. It used to be within the boundaries of propriety to own African people as slaves. That is now neither socially acceptable nor a part of American culture. The majority of people view this as a pleasant change. The same thing applies to metric conversion. Should the United States convert to the metric system, it too will become part of the country’s culture and many people will regard it as a pleasant change as well. In the current world, it is imperative that the United States convert to the metric system. The rest of the world uses it, it is a simpler system, and it is mandated by law in America for many agencies. One can argue that the metric system will confuse Americans, that it will be too expensive, or that the traditions of the past must be upheld. However, all of these issues can be circumvented with a little forward thinking. There is no obstacle that the United States cannot overcome as a country, so why should the barrier between different unit systems stand as one not yet hurdled? The answer is simple; it should not. The barrier needs to be broken and the metric system needs to be let into this country, if not because it is the smart thing to do, at least because it is the American thing to do. Appendix A â€Å"Later, as his armies fought their way across Europe, Napoleon forcibly imposed the system most of the world uses today. † Appendix B â€Å"The law in question concerns the use of the metric system of weight and measure as enacted by the Metric Conversion Act of 1975 and amended in the Omnibus Trade and Competitiveness Act of 1988. This amendment on metric usage (Public Law 100-418, Section 5164) declares that the policy of the nation is to designate the metric system as the preferred system of measurement for trade and commerce, and requires each federal agency to use metric units in all or as many of its procurements, grants, and other business-related transactions as is economically feasible by the end of fiscal year 1992. According to a report by the Congressional Research Service at the end of fiscal year 1992, the Justice Department does not appear to be complying with the [metric usage] law. The Justice Department is not alone.

From early times right down to the 3rd century A.D, the Roman army was based on its legions. A legion varied in strength from 4,000 to 6,000 men, and was subdivided onto ten cohorts. Concert review Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words - 1

Concert review - Essay Example They can either play with a director or not depending on the occasion. This was the Concerto Stella Matutina’s debut in the Rheingau music festival. The group was led by Rolf Lislevant, who is the group’s baroque guitarist (Manson, 2013). Rolf Lislevant has had a major role in the development of early music performances. This he has done by not just using original music and period instruments, but he also reinstated missing elements of imprecision. This technique was well established and widely used when the music was originally composed. However, its use has become rare in the classic and baroque music. Lislevant was accompanied by two of his colleagues from Kapsberger Ensemble: Thoharald Johnsen a former student and compatriot and Bjorn Kjellemyr. They primarily played in Jazz style on the double bass, using the fingers instead of the bow. Thoharald Johnsen can also play the Renaissance lute, baroque guitar and chitarra battente (Buelow, 2004). The flagship location f or the Rheingau music festival was at the Kloster Eberbach, a former imposing monastery. The concert was sold out, and the attendance was up to one thousand people, who came together for a music session known as â€Å"Early Music Meets Jazz†. The first concert took place in February 2012 in Australia. This concert was one of the most memorable and scintillating that has ever been witnessed in recent years. The change in the venue from their first concert which was done in a concert hall, to cavernous Basilica had some major impacts on several aspects of sound projection. This was mostly experienced with the lowest register instruments. The amplified bass experienced this as it generated a lot of reverberations and the baroque was most of the distinguishable. The brass instruments also at some point could not be heard through the acoustic space. However, this did not prevent players from rocking the concert as they took the problem as a motivation to play better. This gave thi s different concert much joy (Manson, 2013). The pieces that were mostly played dated back to the 16th century, which is very much close to the lutenists’ remit. There were also two pieces from a field that is considered to have been rather neglected by recent  music composers. This is the Australian High Baroque which the Concerto Stella Matutina has made to be their own. One of the Australian High Baroque founding fathers is Johann Heinrich Schmeltzer. His Sonata a 3 was a slow graceful work which since Heinrich’s time has showed the Cornett player’s technical abilities. During that time, the Cornett players were seen on the basis of virtuosity as equals to the violin. Then to the evening’s main business, here the jazz started meeting the earlier music such as the performance of the Aria di Firenze composed in the 16th century. Automobile Repair and Mechanics Essay Example for Free

Automobile Repair and Mechanics Essay Automobile repair is not only an interesting field to me, also I feel automobile maintenance is necessary knowledge to have in todays auto market. Like studying for school or learning the skills of a job; I feel knowing how to repair a vehicle will produce a cost effective lifestyle, and take out all the hassle anyone who owns a vehicle encounters everyday. How many Americans can change their own oil that dont work as mechanics, or what is the average repair bill for a same day repair are questions that bring concern to how becoming my own handyman makes a productive choice. I decided to explore the topic a little more to get a better understanding of the requirements to become an auto mechanic, for I have decided to become certified in Automotive Technology. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics(definition)- an auto mechanic is a technician that inspects, maintains and repairs automobiles and light trucks that run on gasoline, electricity or other alternative fuels; like ethanol. Auto mechanics play a very important role in maintaining and keeping vehicles running efficiently. The field of auto mechanics reveals a long history, specialized schooling and strong career objectives for anyone that would like to choose this field as a career. There are certain requirements to become an auto mechanic, and a student can get the basics of automobile repair by taking a vocational class in high school. The course is not really considered training, but the class gives a basic knowledge of what mechanics do. To be considered a qualified auto mechanic; completing training at a post- secondary school like Pinellas Technical Education Centers or at a community college are the best choices, but the college aspect is not as much hands on as the secondary school. PTEC consists of 2 years of intense training(brochure), and the community college usually offers an associate degree for this field that also takes 2 years to complete the coursework. With these types of training, getting the most up to date training needed is essential; like using computer systems to detect problems with cars. Another form of training involves working as an apprentice to a master technician so questions are answered from experience . When all the formal training is completed a mechanic is considered certified when receiving a ASE Certification. This stands for Automobile Service Excellence Certification. The Bureau of Labor statistics suggests that individuals who live in large cities should get certified to help them with their search for jobs. An auto mechanics basic job function is performed in some type of repair shop, and working 40 plus hours a work is expected with such high volume of vehicles to work on. Sometimes work can continue into the weekend, along with performing work on the side to help earn some extra money. The working environment for the job involves identifying and fixing problems that deal with the car in a repair shop. Most of the time repairs are done indoors in a large, open garage like facility, including mechanics to get dirty due to all the grease repairs performed daily. These functions are real important that this does not bother someone who might want to do this as a job, for some of the grease and dirt is almost impossible to get completely rid of. Many shops have now included electrical technology as part of their services due to the fact that most cars have specialized computer systems. This new service has increased the mechanics skill level greatly (resource). Many repair shops rely on these computerized systems to help in identifying problems related to the car (Ly). The term auto mechanic is slowly fading away, and many mechanics are now being labeled as service technicians. The change in the name comes from the fact that working on many different parts of the car, and computer systems that require additional and more advanced training. Auto mechanics make a pretty good living. Starting out as a new auto mechanic the annual income will range between $25,000 $35,000. The next level mechanic could make $35,000- $45,000. After that the pay can be anywhere from $45,000 up to $100,000, for the higher pay range is for a Master Mechanic. It would be best to try and achieve the highest level of pay to make this job worthwhile. This is not exactly a goal that I am going to set forth for myself to achieve because simply auto work is all Im interested in. Many Master Mechanics work for luxury car manufacturers like Mercedes, BMW, Jaguar and Porsche. The future for service technicians looks very bright. For the next 3 years the auto mechanics field will see an increase close to 10- 20%. This increase is due to many technicians retiring, and due to an increase in cars being purchased. Dealerships and independent car repair shops will be the main employers of service technicians. The outlook continues to look positive for auto mechanics even though economic downfall is predicted to continue. In conclusion, auto mechanics is a very diverse field that requires complete dedication and skill to help become successful. Mechanics involves a long history, specialized schooling and the desire to achieve. Auto mechanics has evolved into a very complex and sometimes challenging field, and the future job outlook for this field is great and it is a very good choice for anyone interested in pursuing this career.

Shakespeares Othello - Iagos Deception as Catalyst for Truth Essay

Iago: Deception as Catalyst for Truth    The audience will achieve a more complete understanding of Iago in The Tragedy of Othello if Iago is viewed as a complex character and not simply as a conventional "villain."   Iago's devious schemes destroy lives both literally and figuratively, but they may also serve to reveal the character of others in intricate ways.   A critical interpretation of Iago reveals that although he is principally a deceiver, he is also a dramatic agent of truth.   Even though his acts are malicious and deceitful, the title "honest Iago" is fitting in the sense that he reveals the true nature of his victims, as well as the propensity for human beings to act in accordance with their inherently dark natures.   While based in deception, Iago's machinations expose the truth of Brabantio's hidden racism, Cassio's inner vanity, and Othello's repressed sexual possessiveness. Iago cleverly emphasizes the issue of race and its association with devilry when he and Roderigo announce to Brabantio that Desdemona has eloped with Othello.   Iago is the first to emphasize the biracial nature of the marriage by referring to Othello as an "old black ram" and to Desdemona as a "white ewe" (1.1.85-86).1   Iago then associates Othello with the image of "the devil" (88) because he is black, warning Brabantio that he has "lost half [his] soul" (84) now that Desdemona is married to Othello.   It is Iago who initially suggests that Othello exemplifies the stereotype that a black person is inherently evil and likely to be a practitioner of witchcraft.   Granted, it is unlikely that Iago's few brief statements give birth to Brabantio as a racist; yet by plaguing Brabantio's thoughts with a dialogue that feeds his natural tendency tow... ...ility to perceive Iago completely is the natural human tendency to deny that which is abhorrent in our own natures, and to find scapegoats on which to place the blame for our darker sides.   As a conventional villain, Iago becomes an easy scapegoat; we place the responsibility for the moral failings of others on his ability to manipulate and deceive.   Yet as an agent of truth, Iago's most meaningful revelation is that we tend to deny the reality that, as human beings, we all possess the propensity to judge what is foreign to us in racist ways, to esteem ourselves too highly, or to be sexually motivated and possessive.   Indeed, Iago has the "last laugh" in being "honest Iago" as an agent of truth-for he manipulates not only the characters, but the audience as well. Note 1. All references to Othello are from the Signet Classic Edition (New York: Penguin, 1998).

Insider Trading Essay

Watching â€Å"Martha, Inc. : The Story of Martha Stewart† finally made me realize what the whole scandal of Martha Stewart was all about. From what I learned, Martha Stewart, known as a television personality and famous multimillionaire, was â€Å"indicted on securities fraud, obstruction of justice and conspiracy charges in an insider trading scandal†. Before this all started, she was happily baking cookies for children and making homemade arts and crafts for her friends. At the middle of 2003, she was sent for a five month term of prison. Insider trading was the crime Martha Stewart committed; she basically wanted to get ahead as CEO of her company.By definition, insider training is â€Å"the illegal practice of trading on the stock exchange to one's advantage through having access to confidential information†. â€Å"Insider trading† is a term that most investors would usually associate with illegal conduct. Illegal insider trading â€Å"refers to buyi ng or selling a security while in possession of nonpublic information about the security†. Apparently, based on articles I have read, Martha Stewart was told by her friend Sam Waksal that his company ImClone’s cancer drug had been rejected by the Food and Drug Administration before this information was made public.Because of this, the price of his company's stock diminished quickly. â€Å"The (Securities and Exchange Commission) SEC’s job is to make sure that all investors are making decisions based on the same information. Insider trading can be illegal because it destroys this level playing field. Insider trading is only illegal when a person bases their trade of stocks in a public company on information that the public does not know. † Clearly, Martha Stewart was a huge symbol of corporate greed. She wanted more money even when she had reached one billion dollars as her net worth.Stewart had lost about $400 million â€Å"because of the company's declin ing value, legal fees and lost business opportunities†. To make a comeback, she made a camp again in 2005 which led to profits a year later. Stewart then rejoined the board of directors and became chairman of her namesake company again this year. She hasn't reached her full potential from before but is still catching up to it. (Sentences in quotes are from several Internet sources. No copyright infringement intended. )

Serial Killers A Good Thing For A Mother Essay - 1767 Words

It is a good thing for a mother to develop a strong relationship with their son or daughter. There is however a line that shouldn’t be crossed where having a very strong relationship with your son/mother is normal and healthy becomes a more bizarre closeness between the two. This can become a very strange, awkward situation for the child not understanding the boundaries. Cases have been reported of a mother and a child’s relationship even becomes sexual in nature, further confusing the child and creating a greater chance of sexual problems in their future. Many serial killers reported a higher than average sex drive Even though abuse is extremely prevalent in one way shape or form, not all individuals who grow up to become serial killers were abused, Jeffery Dahmer for examples, supposedly was never abused and is claimed to have had a pretty â€Å"normal† childhood and upbringing. So although a lot of serial killers have many of the same experiences as chil dren and young adults, it proves that there is no specific exact evidence that says what causes someone to carry out such acts. Differences and Demographics When comparing individuals who become serial killers and their upbringing and trying to understand why and/or how they could do the things they do, you will find a lot of similarities that may help explain their behavior. But complicating things even more in trying to understand these individuals is the fact that they can be so different. Dr. H.H.
